Players can obtain more trade tokens by discarding a face-up knight card for two tokens (potentially losing the Largest Army card if they no longer have the most knights, or two or fewer knight cards). This also applies when placing settlements during setup.
The more you play, the more creative you can get with how you put it together and the arrangement of starting tiles and tokens.
